FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) – The University of Arkansas has invited an award winning photographer to serve as a distinguished professor of ethics.

David Handschuh will be on campus to help students for the entire semester.

Some of the most recognized photos from September 11, 2001, were taken by Handschuh.

Handschuh told 5NEWS he was at Ground Zero when the second plane hit the World Trade Center.

His photography was recognized by several award ceremonies.

“These are awards I would gladly give back or throw away, if it somehow could make this event not happen,” Handschuh said.

Handschuh said the role of a journalist is important to the public.

“While rescue workers are running towards danger, there is always a journalist or photo journalist right behind them,” Handschuh said. “My goal is to tell the students here that they can do their job, and they can do it responsibly. They can inform their readers, but they also need to treat their subjects with respect.”
