FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM)- Hundreds came out to Lake Fayetteville Saturday (Oct. 10) to run in the Heroes Half Marathon.
Several of the participants were local firefighters running in full gear. Justin Pianalto was one of them.
"It's tough, it gets heavy, you definitely hit a wall eventually, last year it was about 10 miles and you gotta keep going or quit, you gotta keep going you're already halfway done," Pianalto said.
His wife Sarah said he ran in the event last year. She said it's a great way for community members to interact with fire department.
"Everyday they're working with the community, and it's nice for them to actually get out and not be out here saving them rather than just getting to know them and build a relationship," Pianalto said.
Proceeds from the event go the local firefighter's union, as well as several local charities. For more information on the event, click here.
