FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) – A panel was held Monday (Oct. 12) at the University of Arkansas, in order to further discuss the increasing demand for food security in the world.
The event was attended by several highly-respected members of the agriculture community, as well as Senator John Boozman.
Students, staff, and the public were invited to attend.
“Food security is such an important thing,” Boozman said. “So, the fact they are here listening, I think is a really positive thing.”
Stephanie Mercier, also on the panel, said the constant growth of the human population will make food security a bigger issue as time goes on.
“In order to feed more than 9 billion people by the time we get to 2050, its going to require farmers from the United States, and abroad, to increase their productivity,” Mercier said.
Reed Farms owner Nathan Reed, another guest on the panel, agreed.
“Feeding the world in the 21st century is a definite challenge,” Reed said. “To live, people need access to a safe and affordable food supply. The farmers of the world will have to supply that.”
Boozman will continue his discussion of food security on Tuesday (Oct. 12.), when he will be a guest at Washington Elementary School in Fayetteville.
