FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) – A seven-year-old boy recently received a remote-control toy as a birthday gift from two Fayetteville police officers.

However, the story behind the gift is what is getting the officers recognition.

According to a Facebook post by the Fayetteville Police Department, Corporal Belk and Officer Mercado were responding to a local Walmart, where a shoplifting report was made.

When the officers arrived, they made contact with the suspect.

After investigating, they learned one of the items taken was a toy. The suspect told police the toy was going to be a gift for a child’s birthday.

Following the investigation, the Fayetteville Police Department says Mercado and Belk decided to split the cost of the item and purchased it for the child.

Not only did Mercado and Belk buy the gift for the child. They also delivered the birthday present to the seven-year-old in person.
