FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) - The Benton County Sheriff's Office has created a program to make sure seniors in the area have the information they need to protect themselves from criminals. On Tuesday (October 20) the Seniors and Law Enforcement Together (SALT) council and the Bella Vista Police Department will team up for a free event.

For a "5NEWS This Morning" segment that aired Sunday (October 18), anchor Daren Bobb spoke to Megan Cosgrove with SALT and Sgt. Mike Lira of the Benton County Sheriff's Office. Both said they hope to instill in seniors empowering information to keep them safe, during this vulnerable period in their lives.

The Senior Safety Academy will be held on Tuesday at the Bella Vista Lutheran Church from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and a free breakfast will be provided starting at 8 a.m.
