The piece titled “How Do Make-A-Wish Wishes Come True?” was reported by Bill Whitaker. After he had undergone two bone-marrow transplants, the Make-A-Wish Foundation granted his wish of going to Australia, but the cancer returned a third time when he and his family got back from their trip.

Whitaker also spoke with Gavin Grubbs, who suffers from debilitating muscular dystrophy. Grubbs’ wish was to meet race car champion Joey Logano and the Make-A-Wish Foundation made it happen.

Make-A-Wish began back in 1980 when seven-year-old Chris Greicius, who was dying from leukemia, told his parents he wanted to a be a police officer. Arizona police made him an officer for a day and launched a movement that now grants thousands of wishes a year.
