U Of A Chancellor Candidate Drops Out, Named Top Pick At Ole Miss

FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) — One of the three candidates for the chancellor position at the University of Arkansas campus in Fayetteville dropped out Monday (Oct. 20), according to U of A Manager of Media Relations Steve Voorhies.

Jeffery Vitter was named the top candidate for a similar position at the University of Mississippi, according to reports from WREG- Channel 3.

Dr. Vitter is the current provost of the University of Kansas and brother of U.S. Senator David Vitter from Louisiana. He was selected as the top candidate out of eight.

Dr. Vitter will visit the Ole Miss campus Oct. 29 to meet with students and faculty.

According to Voorhies, the search for a U of A chancellor is now down to the other two candidates: Joseph E. Steinmetz, Ohio State’s executive vice president and provost, and April Mason, provost and senior vice president at Kansas State University.
