FORT SMITH (KFSM) - One group is using a private and public partnership to get the best education techniques being practiced around Arkansas, for the purpose of sharing them to other schools.
"Forward Arkansas"
is wanting to apply a new vision for fixing the state's struggling public education system, and it's getting help from the Walton Family Foundation, the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation, and the public education department.

For a "5NEWS This Morning" segment that aired Sunday (October 25), anchor Daren Bobb spoke to one of the people involved with "Forward Arkansas," Dr. Diana Gonzales Worthen. She's also the director of Project RISE at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.

She told Daren that "Forward Arkansas" relies on surveys and one-on-one interviews from the public to understand what's working in the state's education system. Worthen said one of the seven key areas the group is focusing on is pre-kindergarten, as most kids enter kindergarten without being ready for the curriculum.
