CENTERTON (KFSM) — A Centerton police officer was fired earlier this month on suspicion of illegal steroid possession, according to termination paperwork obtained by 5NEWS from the Centerton Police Department.

The documents show Detective Colby Miser was fired Oct. 20 and Arkansas State Police is investigating. The reasons for his termination listed in the paperwork include possession of a schedule III controlled substance and lying during an investigation.

The documents state Miser is suspected of being in possession of stanozolol, which is an anabolic steroid that promotes muscle growth, according to the Food and Drug Administration website.

Miser’s termination documents show that a letter outlining the reasons for his firing was part of the paperwork, but the Centerton police chief didn’t include it because it’s part of the investigation into the accusations against the former police officer.

Centerton City Attorney Brian Rabal told 5NEWS the stanozolol was found in Miser’s patrol vehicle.

The FDA website states a schedule III controlled substance is one that has a potential for abuse less than the drugs and other substances in schedules I and II, has accepted medical use in treatment in the U.S., and abuse of the substance may lead to moderate or low physical dependence or high psychological dependence.

In 1990, the Anabolic Steroids Control Act added anabolic steroids to the list of schedule III substances and added criminal penalties for the illicit use of anabolic steroids.

According to WebMD, anabolic steroid use can have serious side effects.
