UPDATE: Four Dead After Small Plane Crashes In Russellville

RUSSELLVILLE (KFSM) — A small plane crashed in the yard of a Russellville home Thursday (Oct. 29) killing four people on board, according to the Pope County Sheriff’s Office.

The plane crashed near a home off Van Horn Road on Crow Mountain after taking off from Russellville Municipal Airport around 8 a.m., Sheriff Shane Jones said during a conference.

When authorities arrived at the scene of the crash at about 8:25 a.m. they found four people had died and all are believed to be adults, Jones said. The plane crashed into a resident’s yard and there were no injuries on the ground.

The sheriff said there was one call made from the plane. A resident who owns the property where the plane crashed said it was a foggy morning. METAR data from the Aviation Weather Center indicates a drop in visibility from four miles to half a mile around the time of the crash.

The Federal Aviation Administration is on its way to the crash site.

The plane was based out of Russellville and all families have been notified, according to the sheriff.

Sheriff Jones called the crash a tragedy and said he has never had to handle a situation of this magnitude before.
