BERRYVILLE (KFSM) — Police arrested two Berryville High School students on Wednesday (Oct. 28) after one of the students brought a gun to school.

The gun was not loaded, nor was any ammunition found, said Lieutenant Robert Bartos of the Berryville Police Department. Police found the gun inside his backpack.

The firearm was stolen from a pawn shop in Berryville early Sunday morning, along with five others, Bartos said.

Police said a group of students alerted faculty members that a student had the gun in his backpack. The school administration and school resource officer quickly approached the student and called police.  The student was apprehended very quickly and then he was taken to the juvenile detention center and is facing felony charges of possession of firearm on school grounds.

Following the first student’s arrest, another student was arrested Wednesday afternoon and taken into custody for burglary and felony theft of property in connection to the pawn shop burglary.

Bartos said the gun was brought to school to be exchanged for a cell phone, and there was no intent to use it on anyone.

Police are still working to recover the remaining firearms.
