FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) — The National Transportation Safety Board released a preliminary report on Tuesday (Nov. 10) about the emergency plane landing on Martin Luther King Boulevard last Tuesday (Nov. 3).

During the post-accident examination, investigators found engine oil on the underside of the fuselage and inside the engine compartment. They also found that the oil cooler cross fitting was broken.

Their results fall in line with the pilot’s account.

Former Walmart CEO Bill Simon said in the report that after he departed from the Bentonville Municipal Airport, he noticed a caution light for oil pressure come on. He said he notified Air Traffic Control, which directed him to land in Drake Field in Fayetteville.

Simon said he got another oil pressure notification, which showed that it had dropped below 10 psi.

Simon said he couldn’t see Fayetteville through the clouds and the airplane had dropped in altitude, so he deployed the Cirrus parachute system.

After landing, the plane collided with a truck and stopped on MLK around 10 a.m.
