FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) -- Students from the University of Arkansas gathered at the campus' Union Mall on Thursday (Nov. 12) to demonstrate their support for African American students at the University of Missouri.

The University of Missouri has gained national attention, after an issue with racism forced the resignation of the school’s chancellor and president.

“We wanted our voices to be heard. To let the students at the University of Missouri know that the students at the University of Arkansas are standing in solidarity with them,” said Joseph Daniels, president of Black Graduate Students Association at the University of Arkansas.

Daniels estimated that more than 200 people attended the peaceful rally.

“We want to make sure that students of color have the same opportunities as all of the others students on the campus,” Daniels said. “To have a quality education, so they can come in here, be educated, and work well and have a great life.”

Students who attended the rally wore black, as a symbol of blacking out racism.

“It was really exciting to see,” said Jasmine Bowman, a senior at the University of Arkansas. “It was quite amazing, just seeing everybody get together, and collaborating with one another. Making sure that we stand strong united, and support the Mizzou students.”
