If you’re planning on a big turkey feast this Thursday, now is the time to start prepping your bird.

Frozen turkeys can take several days to thaw out, so it is necessary to plan ahead.

It takes one day to thaw every four pounds of turkey using the refrigerator, according to a Butterball website. Thaw the turkey breast side up in an unopened wrapper, and put the bird on a tray inside the refrigerator.

There’s also a faster method of thawing frozen turkey, cold water thawing. This method takes approximately 30 minutes per pound.

Butterball suggests thawing the turkey breast side down in an unopened wrapper, submerged in cold water. The water must be changed every 30 minutes to keep the turkey chilled.
