BENTON COUNTY (KFSM) — A property owner in Benton County shot two hunting dogs Tuesday (Dec. 1), according to the Benton County Sheriff’s Office.

The hunters had two hounds that they were using to hunt raccoon and the dogs ended up on another man’s property, the sheriff’s office said. The property owner shot the hounds stating he was afraid they would kill his livestock, according to the sheriff’s office.

The hunters said the dogs had chased a raccoon up a tree when they were on the man’s property, the sheriff’s office said.

The shooting is still under investigation and the case will be forwarded to the prosecutor’s office, who will decide whether to file any charges, according to the sheriff’s office.
