FORT SMITH (KFSM) — The annual ‘Shop with a Cop’ program kicked off at 8 a.m. Saturday (Dec. 5) at the Walmart on Rogers Ave.

About 135 kids and their families partnered up with a law enforcement member as they made their way through the toy, clothing and electronics sections of the store. 5NEWS asked a patrol officer with the Mansfield Police Department what makes the program so special.

“It’s a good way to give back to needy people, and it makes me feel good also,” Frankie Clouatre said. “I think I have more fun than the kids do.”

Arkansas State Police, the Fort Smith Police Department and Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office were among the ten agencies helping kids find everything on their Christmas lists. Several local community groups and private individuals donated money to make this cause possible.

The Kiwanis Club of Fort Smith provided food and hot chocolate afterward.
