WASHINGTON COUNTY (KFSM) -- Social media has helped name Devil's Den the state park of the year for Region 1, which covers Northwest Arkansas.

Monte Fuller, the park's superintendent, said there's a lot that makes the park unique and helped them receive this award.

However, one major part is their social media presence. It's pictures posted to sites like Facebook and Instagram that have encouraged others to come out.

"If you were going to Yellow Rock and take a picture and post that you're having a great day today, your friends are gonna see that," Fuller said. "It's gonna pique their interest and make them think, 'Well this is a place I wanna go also.'"

Fuller said on a winter weekend, he normally sees about 1,000 people in the park. He added that the park is working with an intern from the University of Arkansas to collect data to see where the majority of social media posts are coming from.
