FORT SMITH (KFMS) -- The Sebastian County Humane Society usually hosts fundraisers involving cute animals, but for this year's fundraiser, local fire fighters are joining in.

Jacky Fleming, director of development for the humane society, said the new 2015 holiday fundraiser is a calendar.

"The firemen and calendars have become a pretty trendy thing, and we decided to do a little less-risque take on the fire fighter calendar," Fleming said.

Fleming said the calendars are $20 and all of that money goes toward supporting the humane society.

"As everybody knows, we've had a rough go of it, and we're trying to do everything we can to get the community involved affordably and interestingly, and we just need support,"Fleming said.

Division fire chief Phil Christensen said he didn't think twice when he was approached to do the calendar.

"We know they've lost funding recently, and there surviving just like any other non-profit organization out there and just one little thing that we can help," Christensen said.

He said he already has plans to do it again.

"I told them that if sales are good for this year, contact us and we'll do the exact same thing again next year," Christensen said.

The calendars are for sale at the humane society.

The humane society is also holding a concert on Saturday (Dec. 12) at 9 at Old Town Grain & Feed on Garrison. Humane society staff are asking for donating $3 or some supplies for admission.

Employees will also be at the Creekmore Holiday Express with hot chocolate and apple cider on Saturday, Dec. 19.
