CHARLESTON (KFSM) — A motion to continue the case of Thomas Roy Barnes has been approved and a future trial date has not been determined, according to the Franklin County Circuit Clerk’s office.
According to court documents, Barnes’ attorney Joseph Self filed the motion Monday (Dec. 14), two days before the trial was scheduled to begin.
Barnes has been charged with first-degree murder for the killing of Joey Strickland.
He bonded out on August 21, 2015 after he posted a $30,000 bond. Barnes was originally booked on a $500,000 bond.
Strickland was Barnes’ nephew.
The shooting occurred on South School Street south of the Charleston schools on Tuesday afternoon (June 9), according to Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney David Gibbons.
