FORT SMITH (KFSM) – The clock is ticking for folks in the River Valley that are taking part in the angel tree program.

On Wednesday (Dec.16) is the last day to donate your items. Items can be brought to the Salvation Army location on Zero Street in Fort Smith. Each box will need to be filled with toys by the end of today. The items donated will go to kids in need this holiday season.

The angel tree program started back in November with 1,500 angel ornaments hanging from the trees across the area. The community was asked to buy the gifts listed on the ornament whether it would toys, clothes, or electronics. Folks can then drop the gifts off unwrapped at the location on Zero Street.

From there volunteers will put the presents into white Santa bags and separate the bags into boxes for each family.

Organizers said they’re still angels left on the tree, but if they don’t get picked the kids will not be forgotten. “We will fill up the bags with toys and clothes from our toy shop area which that comes from donations that come here,” said Assistant Director LeAnn Moore.

Volunteers can go to the distribution center on Zero Street at anytime today.

Folks can drop off their gifts from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the same location.

The families in need will be picking up the donations on Friday and also next week to take home to their kids for underneath the Christmas tree.
