Hogs Can’t Hold On In OT, Lose To Mercer

Arkansas loses 69-66 in overtime to Mercer in Little Rock on Saturday.

LITTLE ROCK (KFSM) - It came down to the wire in North Little Rock Saturday night, but the Razorbacks couldn't come out on top in a 69-66 overtime loss to Mercer at Verizon Arena.

The Bears pulled away with a four point lead with seconds left to go in overtime, but Anton Beard nails a basket from behind the arc with one tick left on the clock.  A Moses Kingsley foul would give Mercer two freebies, and ultimately the game. All that happened after a potential game-winning three-pointer rimmed the basket with under 10 second left.

Although Kingsley's fouls hurt the Hogs in the end, he lead the team with his sixth double-double of the season, recording 18 points and 14 rebounds.  Dusty Hannahs, who was playing in front of his hometown crowd, was behind Kingsley with 10 points.

The first half started out sluggish to say the least offensively. Both teams combined to shoot 13-52 as Mercer took a 19-17 lead into the break. But, the two teams put up 72 points in the second half to force an overtime.

The Razorbacks will be back at Bud Walton Arena on Tuesday to host North Florida with a7 p.m. tip off.
