Major river flooding is expected on all major rivers in our area this weekend. Flooding will rival levels seen earlier this year in May if the forecast rain occurs as predicted.
The Arkansas River at Van Buren/Fort Smith will jump 11ft by Sunday; likely flooding the River Front Park and disrupting shipping commerce.
The May flooding saw the Arkansas River hit 33.5 feet.
The Poteau River is forecast to climb 20 feet this weekend. Major farmland flooding is expected.
The Illinois River may climb as high as 20 feet and could be close to historic flood levels on Sunday.
Additional flooding of tributaries is likely as main rivers become overwhelmed.
