Swift Water Rescue Crews Save Man Who Drove Around Barricades In LeFlore County

LEFLORE COUNTY (KFSM) — A swift water rescue team saved a man whose truck got stuck in floodwaters in the Poteau area Monday afternoon (Dec. 28), according to troopers with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the incident happened at Old State Highway 112 at James Fork Creek, which was closed because of heavy flooding overnight. Troopers said the man physically drove around barricades and into the floodwaters around 11:30 a.m. Monday morning. Other people were in the area at the time and witnessed his truck start to flood.

Troopers teamed up with the Pocola Fire Department’s swift water rescue team to perform the rescue. Members of the rescue crews were in a boat, attempting to reach the man’s truck and pull him to safety.

Troopers said the man will be issued a ticket for driving around the barricades.
