RIVER VALLEY (KFSM) – Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department crews are working to repair highways throughout the River Valley after heavy rain left damage behind.
In Franklin County, cracks were found less than a mile north of where a hill slide destroyed part of Highway 23 last spring.
“It had a lot of major problems with it, and apparently they're gonna have some more,” driver Larry Ritchie said on Monday (Jan. 4).
Danny Straessle with the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department said crews patched up the cracks on the highway. He said the department is keeping a close eye on the road because the damage looks similar to the beginning of the hill slide last spring, and could worsen.
In Crawford County, people drove one-way through Highway 59 in Van Buren while crews put a temporary fix on the road Monday.
Straessle said a concrete cross drain needs to be replaced before the road is completely fixed. He said crews will need a rain-free forecast for about two weeks in order to complete the project.
