BELLA VISTA (KFSM) — The City of Bella Vista broke ground on a new, 30-mile public trail system Wednesday (Jan. 6).
The natural-surface trail will be built throughout Bella Vista’s wooded landscape and came together through a joint agreement between the city, the Bella Vista Village Property Owners Association, Cooper Communities and Bentonville/Bella Vista Trailblazers.
The trail system is funded through a $3 million grant from the Walton Family Foundation.
A master trails plan completed in 2015 calls for a total of almost 150 miles of natural-surface trail spanning the entire 45-square-miles of city limits.
Construction of the first phase of trails should be finished by November 2016 in anticipation of the upcoming International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) World Summit planned to be held in northwest Arkansas.
