Another chance for wintry precipitation is in the forecast for Thursday and like earlier this week, any accumulation will be light and travel impacts limited.

A strengthening low pressure in SE Texas and Louisiana will cause areas of rain, freezing rain, sleet, and snow to develop in our area. The track of the low puts the heaviest precipitation to our south and the best chances for snow across SE Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee, & Alabama. This is the low pressure system that will eventually generate a major snowstorm on the east coast later this week & this weekend.

Accumulations totals in our area will be light and any snow/sleet totals should be under 1″ with most of us seeing less than .50″.

This will be a full day system for us:

  • Thursday Morning: Freezing drizzle, Sleet, Spotty Rain; Some road issues
  • Thursday Afternoon: Spotty rain; Little or no road issues
  • Thursday Night: Patchy sleet or snow: Some road issues

Thursday 4am-6am: A few slick spots may develop with areas of light rain, sleet, or snow. Any accumulations will be minimal and overall travel impacts should be limited.

Thursday Noon: Temperatures will climb near or above freezing with overcast skies and light drizzle possible.

Thursday 6pm: Light snow or patchy sleet is possible with minimal, if any, accumulation.

Overall, the impacts of this system should be limited but the usual trouble spots on bridges and overpasses will likely be an issue in some places.
