FORT SMITH (KFSM) — The $32 million Arkansas College of Osteopathic Medicine being built at Chaffee Crossing in Fort Smith will be finished in a few months, according to school officials.

5NEWS toured the facility Wednesday (Jan. 20) with Vice President Tom Webb to get a look at how everything is coming along. The facility will serve 600 students, and will house high-tech classrooms for video conferencing with professors from all over the world.

The goal is to graduate doctors who plan to stay and practice in the River Valley and Northwest Arkansas.

“Fort Smith and the general area around Fort Smith is the most under-served area in our country,” said Webb. “Because of that, the wisdom of our board made the decision to invest in a root call solution.”

According to school officials, construction is set to be completed by April.
