FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) -- Two dogs are back home safe with their owner after they were found stuck in a drain.

Wednesday afternoon (Jan. 20), animal services officer Lawrence Kimble was dispatched to eastern Fayetteville.

Some residents in a neighborhood reported they heard dogs barking from inside a drain.

When Kimble and his partner arrived, they found two large dogs stuck in a drain.

“I was like, 'Wow! How did these guys get stuck here?'” Kimble said. “I assume they may have been chasing something, and they just ran into a dead end.”

Kimble said when he opened the manhole and got into the drain, the dogs were excited to see him.

Kimble was able to lift the dogs out of the drain and hand them over to other officers.

“It was a good feeling to be able to go down in that hole and get those dogs out,” Kimble said. "It was a really good feeling."

The dogs were scanned for microchips, which is how animal services was able to find the dogs' owner and notify him of their rescue.

“He had been out looking for them since 2:30 that afternoon, since they had disappeared,” Kimble said. “But, with where they were at, he wouldn’t have found them there.”

Kimble said the owner made a donation to Fayetteville Animal Services to thank them for the rescue.

Kimble said he was just happy he was able to help save the dogs.

“That is what we are here for. We are here to serve the community, and we are here to serve the animals,” Kimble said.
