VAN BUREN (KFSM) — A local chapter of a nationwide veterans organization called the Veterans of Foreign Wars is getting the chance of a lifetime on Wednesday (Feb. 3). They’ll be meeting someone within their organization that stands by well-known political leaders on a daily basis.

Members of the organization haven’t had a chance to meet the Commander-in-Chief of the national organization quite yet. The leader represents the voices of the 1.4 million veterans that are in the VFW organization.

John Biedrzychi is the Commander-in-Chief of the national group. Biedrzychi’s job is to stand in front of President Obama, and also in front of Congress in Washington, D.C. He speaks to them about veterans benefits and affairs.

In Arkansas, VFW has been in Van Buren since 1925. At this time, they have 125 members with active, disabled and retired veterans.  They’re all involved in the organization and give back to the community by participating in youth programs, and interacting with the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts in the area.

The veterans will hear from the groups leader this evening and will get a chance to listen to someone who speaks for them.

This is the only post in this district that the Commander-in-Chief is coming to visit. The recognition makes the Van Buren chapter feel honored since they’re the oldest post in the state of Arkansas.

The Commander-in-Chief will be coming at 5p.m. You don’t have to be a member to attend the event.
