FORT SMITH (KFSM) — A Southside High School senior is dead following a collision that happened during the weekend.

Greenwood police said a Camaro that Sabastian Langland was passenger in, was struck after it pulled out in front of a vehicle traveling along Highway 71. The accident happened late Saturday night (Feb. 13) near Greenwood.

He was taken by a medical helicopter to a hospital as a result of being found unresponsive at the scene.

“He was on the passenger side of the car, so he took most of the brunt of the impact on the passenger side,” said Langland’s brother-in-law Brandon Gomez.

With his family is by his side, Tammy Tanksley, the mother of a friend of Sabastian’s, said she wants to do everything she can to help with expenses.

“Sabastian attends high school with my son. They have been best friends since about the eighth grade,” she said.

Tanksley created a GoFundMe page to take donations for Langland.

“We thank everyone who has donated to that and encourage people to share and continue to donate because the expenses are tremendous,” she said. “We also have established a car wash fundraiser for this Saturday (Feb. 20). That will be at Advance Auto Parts on Zero Street from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. We will be charging $5 for cars, $10 for trucks.”

The Gofundmepage has already raised more than $2,000 in a just a couple of days.

“We’re really thrilled that we are able to help them in that way,” Tanksley said. “I’m a registered nurse and I have seen families struggle many times trying to stay with their loved ones. It is hard. These people  are 150 miles away from everything and it is very difficult. ”
