UPDATE: Fort Smith Stabbing Suspect Arrested

FORT SMITH (KFSM) — The Fort Smith Police Department has arrested John Bruesch, 37, on suspicion of being involved with a stabbing early Friday morning (Feb. 19).

Bruesch was placed under arrest following an interview at the police department on suspicion of second-degree battery, according to a release from the Fort Smith Police Department.

The release stated that Bruesch was listed as a suspect after Christopher Cantrell suffered a minor wound to his stomach during the incident.

His bond has been set at $5,000.

Officers with the Fort Smith Police Department are currently searching for a suspect involved in stabbing that sent one man to the hospital early Friday morning (Feb. 19).

The suspect, identified by police as John Bruesch, is believed to be armed with a knife and dangerous at this time, officers said.

The stabbing happened near a known homeless camp, known locally as the ‘South Camp’ off of Wheeler Avenue around 1:15 a.m. Officers later confirmed both the victim and the suspect are homeless.

The victim was released from the hospital Friday afternoon, according to Sgt. Daniel Grubbs.

Grubbs said they have learned that Bruesch and the victim had been involved in an altercation about three days prior to the stabbing.
