FORT SMITH (KFSM) -- A local massage therapist spoke to 5NEWS about a treatment that doctors have begun prescribing pregnant mothers: the prenatal massage.

"A lot of mommies come in and say their doctors have requested them go ahead and have a massage, especially if they are stressed out or overworked or just got a lot going on," said BabyFlix therapist Cindy Phelan.

The American Pregnancy Association said that prenatal massage can reduce anxiety, decrease symptoms of depression, improve labor outcomes and newborn health, and relieve muscle aches and joint pains.
