** A Freeze Watch is in effect for NW Arkansas for Saturday Morning**

A strong cold front will arrive on Friday dropping temperatures across the region with lows expected to be freezing both Friday and Saturday night in NW Arkansas and possibly Saturday night in the Fort Smith/River Valley area.

Rain will end rather quickly on Friday with cooler and drier weather for the weekend.

This image from the National Weather Service shows the average date of the last freeze which is usually around March and April for our area.

Frost and Freezes are broken up into three categories:

  • Average Last Frost: 32º (Fort Smith: March 26th, Fayetteville: April 16th)
  • Average Last Hard Freeze 28º (Fort Smith: March 13th, Fayetteville: April 2nd)
  • Average Last Killing Freeze 24º (Fort Smith: Feb 26th, Fayetteville: March 20th)

The Freeze Watch is currently only for NW Arkansas but might be expanded farther south into the Fort Smith area for Sunday morning.

Ironically, the first day of Spring is Sunday and much of the area will start off the day with temperatures near or below freezing.
