FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) — A Fayetteville man was arrested on Monday (March 28) after allegedly shattering the glass door of a local business because they stopped selling shoes that his wife makes.

John Scharnhorst III, 45, was taken to Washington County Detention Center and is facing terroristic threatening, criminal mischief and commercial burglary charges.

Scharnhorst went to Terra Tots shortly before 11 a.m. on Monday and started yelling at the manager of Terra Tots and threatened to kill him, according to the preliminary report. Scharnhorst was upset because Terra Tots was no longer selling the shoes his wife makes.

The manager locked the door when Scharnhorst showed up, so Scharnhorst grabbed a bike and attempted to throw it through the window but it bounced off, the report states. Then he tried to do the same with a rubber baby that was on the bike, with the same results.

Scharnhorst returned to his car, and the manager followed him outside to try to get his license plate details, the report states. Scharnhorst got out of his car again, and then threw the business’ sign through the door, shattering the window.

Scharnhorst attempted to enter the business, but left after seeing that the Terra Tots owner was armed.

He returned to his car and was pulled over by police near College Avenue and Mountain Street. He made some vague threats, which prompted an evacuation of the nearby Federal Building.
