EVANSVILLE (KFSM) -- People in a small Washington County town started assessing the damage to their homes after an EF2 tornado touched down last week.

The Roberts family lost their roof, but said their community is the reason they'll be able to rebuild instead of move.

Dorothy Roberts said she's received cards with money donations, which are making that possible. Also, next month the community will hold a chili dinner and baked goods auction to raise money to get the Roberts a new roof.

"I can never repay the wonderful things that people have donated -- their help and their money and their love and encouragement," said Roberts. "You know, all I can do is return love."

The community dinner is scheduled for Saturday, April 16 at 6 p.m.

Roberts said she's looking into putting a storm shelter into the fire house that would serve the community of about 320 people.
