PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. (WREG) — Multiple tourists are dead after a helicopter crashed Monday afternoon in Sevier County.
According to WVLT, the owner of Smoky Mountain Helicopters said five people died in the crash.
The group of tourists were on a popular sight-seeing tour when the Bell 206 went down around 3:30 p.m.
Pigeon Forge Police Department Chief Jack Baldwin told the media there’s not much left at the scene as fire destroyed the helicopter.
That fire is reportedly spreading up the mountain.
Witnesses told WBIR they heard explosions and saw fire after the helicopter crashed into the trees.
It’s unclear what caused the accident.
