CENTERTON (KFSM) -- A woman was taken to the hospital Tuesday (April 5) after she was shot during a home invasion, according to the Centerton Police Department.

Police said the victim called this morning about intruders getting into her home on Torbay Trace around 8 a.m. The woman told officers she heard some in her home, so she grabbed a handgun, hid in a closet and called 911, according to police.

The two men entered the room she was in and then charged the woman, according to a press release. During a struggle for the firearm, the gun went off, firing into the woman's leg and abdomen. However, the woman was taken to the hospital and her injuries were deemed non-life threatening.

"She did the right thing," Centerton Captain Kris Arthur said. "She called 911 immediately, she gave where she was, she attempted to protect herself with whatever means she had, she found a location she thought was safe and I think she did the right thing."

The two men, who entered the home through an open garage door, fled the residence, according to the release.

Police said the intruders are described as two white males in their late teens or early twenties. One was wearing a red bandana on his face with white shoes and blue jeans, the other was skinny with a sunken face and dark clothing. The second man was described to be a "drug user," the release states.

If you have any information regarding the intruders call the Centerton Police Department at (479) 273-5532.
