FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) - It's been one of the best season in years for the Arkansas men's golf team. For the first time in 23 years the Hogs have had three different individual winners.
"I don't think anybody has won individually since Sebastian [Cappelen] has been here," senior Taylor Moore said. "So, with me doing it in Houston, I feel like I kind of got these guys' confidence up in a way, and helped boost them. We're just playing a lot looser now than we were in the fall, and definitely playing more aggressive."
Moore was the first individual winner at the All-American Collegiate Championship in February. Following that, senior Nicolas Echavarria at the Southern Intercollegiate, and most recently sophomore Alvaro Ortiz at the Aggie Invitational on April 3rd. Arkansas heads into the SEC Championship not only on the heels of that last individual win, but with top five team finishes in six out of their last eight events.
"The SEC is the best golf conference there is so, playing against top ranked college players is great," Echavarria said. "I think if we have a good week we can make something special out of this semester."
The confidence is high these guys can well play well enough not only to bring home a conference title, but bring something better back to Fayetteville.
"We've been working hard for the post-season," Ortiz said. "We have come together as a team, and Barrett [Lais] and Brad [McMakin] have helped us get there. We've very confident we can win a national championship this year."
