ARKANSAS (KFSM) -- It's a day of giving back to hundreds of local nonprofits across The Natural State as the Arkansas Gives campaign kicks off Thursday (April 7).

More than 300 nonprofit organizations throughout  Arkansas are hoping to raise thousands of dollars during Arkansas Gives.

This campaign is a one day event that makes it easy to give to a local nonprofit of your choice. Many nonprofit organizations already struggle raising money on their own while trying to do good for the community.

The River Valley Regional Food Bank is always looking for donations of food, but this time they're needing money to help build their nonprofit organization. "We have already so much to do," said Ken Kupchick with the River Valley Regional Food Bank. "There's big box items so we really need help at the food bank."

Another organization that is helping the community is "Be Extraordinary." This organization helps people with severe disabilities to be able to achieve life goals.

"It's going to help us reach those people who don't have funding sources," said Tom Jakobs with "Be Extradordinary."

Also making an impact locally, the United Way Fort Smith said that all donations made through Arkansas Gives will go towards purchasing books for local children through the Dolly Parton Imagination Library Program.

This one day can really make a difference and help grow these organizations for this year. Last year more than $2 million was raised throughout the state of Arkansas, but this year they're hoping to double that.

Folks have until 8:00 p.m. to donate money. When you donate to the charity of your choice, the charity gets entered into a bonus pool with bonus prizes.
