OXFORD (KFSM)- The Diamond Hogs were looking to even the series at Ole Miss Saturday, but despite a late rally No.21 Arkansas was unable to do so losing to Rebels 14-9.

Prior to the weekend series against No. 14 Ole Miss Head Coach Dave Van Horn made it well known that he was looking to switch up the starting pitching rotation. Usual closer Zach Jackson started things off on the mound for the Hogs Saturday, making it his first start of the season.

In his first start of the season Jackson pitched five innings throwing 98 total pitches, struck-out eight, and allowed six runs. The Junior’s start was rough the first couple of innings, allowing three hits and two runs in the first inning.

The Razorbacks didn’t get on the scoreboard until the top of the fourth inning when Luke Bonfield homered to left field, bringing the score to 4-1 Hogs still trailing. Ole Miss answered back with two more runs in the sixth.

As the saying goes, “better late than never” and the Diamond Hogs stayed true to that saying. Finally offense made some plays at the top of eighth. Grant Koch singled up the middle, Michael Bernal advanced to second, and Luke Bonfield scored. Right after, Rick Nomura had a sacrifice fly allowing Cole Eagan to score. The Hogs were able to get four unearned runs in the eighth alone.

When the Rebels took over at bat in the bottom of the eight they continued to rack up runs and hits, getting seven hits and six runs off of pitchers Willey and Campbell.

The series finale against Ole Miss will be at 12:00 p.m. on the SEC Network.
