PERRY COUNTY (KFSM) — A Johnson County deputy fatally wounded a theft suspect Wednesday (April 20) in Perry County, according to Arkansas State Police.

The shooting incident happened south of Perryville and involved a Memphis man wanted in connection with a Pulaski County theft investigation, ASP said.

The Johnson County deputy was assisting Perry County deputies in the search for the suspect, according to ASP.

At approximately 11:45 p.m. near 1542 Highway 9, the armed suspect was shot after confronting officers, ASP said. The identity of the man shot by the deputy is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

State police agents are investigating the circumstances of the shooting and their findings will be submitted to the Perry County prosecuting attorney to consider whether the use of deadly force by the deputy was consistent with Arkansas law.
