GORE, Okla. (KFSM) — Gore Schools are closed Thursday due to a police emergency near the elementary school, according to Superintendent Lucky McCrary.

Colton Cheater barricaded himself inside a trailer home near the elementary school overnight, leading to a standoff which then caused the closure at all Gore Schools, according to Sequoyah County Sheriff Ron Lockhart. Cheater is facing multiple charges.

Cheater threatened to kill his girlfriend after an accident on Highway 64 overnight, Lockhart said. When his girlfriend called 911 and officers arrived, Cheater threatened to kill them too, which prompted the standoff.

However, the standoff ended peacefully around 7:45 a.m., according to Lockhart. Cheater was taken into custody and being questioned.

“We’re just so fortunate that no shots were fired in all of this and that no one was injured,” McCrary said.
