LEFLORE COUNTY (KFSM) --The jury found Elvis Thacker guilty of first degree murder and forcible sodomy during his trial on Friday (April 29).
Thacker was accused of the September 2010 murder and sexual assault of Briana Ault.
The defense and prosecution argued closing statements on Friday morning before the decision went to the jury Friday afternoon. After deliberation, the jury decided Thacker was guilty of first degree murder and forcible sodomy.
"I know Briana is dancing," mother Bethany Ault-Pyle said. "I know she's happy and knows that I've been fighting for her.
Thacker now will await sentencing. The prosecution is expected to ask for the death penalty.
Jury selection for Thacker's trial started April 4, with the trial getting underway on April 12 in LeFlore County.
"This was for Briana," stepfather C.W. Pyle said. "This is not about the Elvis Thacker guilty charge; this was a victory for Briana."
Thacker is expected learn his sentence on Monday (May 2).
