FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM)- Arkansas was looking to win the series against the No.2 ranked Aggies at Baum, but with a combination of Texas A&M’s pitcher throwing an almost perfect complete game and errors by the Hogs the Aggies came out on top 6-2.
Arkansas (26-18, 4-7) pitcher Keaton Mckinney started things off on the mound for the Hogs. The sophomore threw three good innings, but thing went south in the fourth. Texas A&M (35-9,14-7) got four runs off three hits in the top of the fourth. Head Coach Dave Van Horn kept Mckinney on the mound for a little over one more inning. McKinney was replaced by Murphy after 5 1/3 innings, he allowed six hits and five runs with five strikeouts.
Another big issue int the fourth for the Hogs was Michael Bernal’s one-out error, helping Texas A&M accomplish their four runs in the fourth inning.
Texas A&M’s pitcher Kyle Simonds (7-1) got his seventh win of the season for striking out five Arkansas batters in nine innings. He also allowed eight hits and gave up to earned runs.
Arkansas head Coach Dave Van Horn was also impressed by Simonds’ outing.
“Simonds, once he got once they got the big inning for him,” said Van Horn “You know it just seemed like he got better and better and that’s kind of a veteran move there we gave him an opportunity we opened the window that ground ball that turned into an error in the fourth.”
The Diamond Hogs will be taking on Missouri State Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. in Springfield, Missouri.
