FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) – A group of local entrepreneurs have teamed up to bring a new movie theater setting to Fayetteville.

Plans show the new theater will be built along Dickson Street in downtown Fayetteville.

"It is just a really great platform for independent film makers to show their films," said Mark Landonsmith, an independent film maker.

Ross Cully, Greg Billingsley, and Brian Hill said they will replace the current Dickson Theater with a new three-story building. The building will provide several small theater settings for independent movie makers to screen their films.

"That is going to bring in a different group of film enthusiasts who may not support studio film as much as they support independent film," Landonsmith said.

Designs for the building include a bar, café, and rooftop patio which will also serve as an outdoor theater.

"It is thrilling, because Fayetteville really needs more screens,” said Jules Taylor, member of the Fayetteville Film Festival. “Especially on Dickson, where we don't have any kind of movie theaters around the Dickson area.”

Those involved with the project told 5NEWS they hoped the building would be finished and ready to open by fall of 2017.
