LAKE TENKILLER (KFSM) -- Around 12 a.m. on Thursday (May 12), campers at Snake Creek Cove on Lake Tenkiller said they felt strong winds hit their travel trailers.

"The wind was blowing and our trailer was just rocking," said camper Ed Ogdon.

Ed and his wife Regina said they did not have time to travel to safer ground before hail set in.

" It finally let up, and she opened the door, and said someone is hollering for help over there," he said.

The couple said they heard their camping neighbors beating on their overturned trailer.

A man and a woman were inside.

"His wife was still in there and we told them, we said 'we are going to get emergency people out here,' Ogdon said.

The trailer was lying on its side and the front entrance was against the ground. The couple had to climb through a back window.

The woman was taken to a local hospital with a broken arm, according to emergency crews.

Across Lake Tenkiller the Ogdons said they were able to see more damage once the sun came up.

The nearby marina at Snake Creek Cove was destroyed.

"I've never seen a boat dock devastated like this," said Cherokee County emergency director Mike Underwood.

The marina received the most damage. The tin roof was ripped off of several rows of docks and some boats were either flipped or severally damaged.

"They are watching to make sure that the water doesn't rise too much to where it would effect these campsites through here," Underwood said.

He also said that the are received around eight inches in less than 12 hours.

The national weather service is expected to survey the damage to determine what exactly hit the area.

"All we know at this point is it might have been a micro burst or a small tornado," Underwood said.
