FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) --  The chancellor of the University of Arkansas hit the road early Monday morning (May 16) for a five-day bus tour around the Natural State.

The chancellor, Joseph Steinmetz, has only been at the school since January.

He's meeting with 75 academic departments and centers across campus to get a feel for how the University of Arkansas works and to get some feedback from faculty, staff and students.

"Arkansans need to know this university is here for them, for the entire state," said Steinmetz. "That's the other message we want to get through."

In addition, he said he wanted to meet the people of Arkansas and hear from them about the relationships that the University of Arkansas has with the state, as well as about some of the resources that they can provide to the state.

There are quite a few stops planned for the bus tour. The riders will meet with alumni and educational leaders across the state at other educational institutes, and they will also be meeting with state business leaders to discuss developing partnerships.

Even though Steinmetz just started the tour, he said he was already planning to make this trip an annual event.
