POTEAU (KFSM) -- A weekend race raised more than $6,000 for beautification projects on Cavanaugh Hill.

Nearly 400 runners from seven states participated in the 9th annual Cavanaugh Killer 8K early Saturday morning (May 14).

The Poteau Chamber of Commerce has spent $28,000 on beautification project on Cavanaugh, adding a lookout deck, security cameras and pavilion, as well as maintaining the area.

The race is the only fundraising project the Chamber has to raise money for Cavanaugh Hill. The money raised on Saturday will also help restore the area after it was graffiti-ed earlier this year.

"This race is very successful every year and it really helps us help the community,” said Karen Wages, of the Poteau Chamber of Commerce.
