BENTON COUNTY (KFSM) — The Benton County Quorum Court Grievance Council will take up a grievance filed by a Benton County Sheriff’s Office employee against interim Sheriff Meyer Gilbert.

In her grievance, Tiffany DeVore writes she had been demoted from disciplinary sergeant at the jail to deputy, which lowered her pay by about $2 an hour and denies her further advancement opportunities.

DeVore claims she was demoted because she was a vocal supporter of sheriff candidates Paul Pillaro and Glenn Latham, who were or are running against current Benton County Chief Deputy Shawn Holloway. Pillaro was eliminated during Republican primary elections in March, but Latham, who is running as an Independent, will be Holloway’s opponent in the general election in November.

Gilbert was sworn in as interim sheriff on April 28 and will finish out the rest of 2016 after former Sheriff Kelley Cradduck resigned.

Holloway had resigned from the sheriff office during his primary election campaign, but he was rehired and Gilbert appointed him to chief deputy shortly after he took office. Gilbert also made several other command staff changes.

The grievance council will hear DeVore’s claim June 1.
