FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) - A year after making it to Omaha and the College World series, the Razorbacks finish with a record 13 straight loses. A disappointment, and not the season anyone was expecting from Arkansas.
"You just sometimes as a coach, you sit over there and think what can I do," Arkansas coach Dave Van Horn said. "What can I do to stop this. I've tried this lineup. I've done that. I brought that guy in, and nothing seems to work."
It was the first losing season for Van Horn at Arkansas, and the first time in 17 years not to make the SEC tournament.
"I guess 13 games ago I didn't have any idea we were going to be under .500. I knew we had a very tough schedule. In my eyes I was thinking, man if we could just split these games. You know, we're going to be 32 wins, somewhere in there, we'll be okay," Van Horn said.
But, that wasn't the case. Van Horn says there is only one finger to point when it comes to this season's struggles.
"There's a lot of things I could have done to have a better team. I look in the mirror, it's my fault. I've told the team that. But, we won't let it happen again next year. We'll get better," Van Horn said.
Next year brings a lot of change for the Razorbacks, including a new pitching coach and the possibility of losing key players to the MLB draft.
"I'll feel better when I know some guys come back because obviously you need experience if you're going to get to a certain level. We need Bonfield and Shaddy to come back and hit," Van Horn said.
Van Horn says he's very optimistic for what's ahead in 2017 for Razorback baseball.
